right eye blindness blues |
Hi all!
Wanted to take a few minutes to re-establish myself here and let you all know how valuable this forum is in my life. I don't post terribly often but I lurk every day for tips on great shows to listen to. I guess I've been posting since 2008 or so and I've been ever humbled by everybody's knowledge and overall coolness.
I've been having serious eye problems over the past week, namely a corneal abrasion and some sort of bacterial infection in my right eye. I waited too long to see the doctor and now have a reasonable chance (less than 50%, greater than 10%) of going blind in that eye. I'm a little down and felt like reaching out to the fantastic people here for some kind words and/or show suggestions, since listening to music is about the only thing I can do.
Thanks in advance!
-Ben

Re: right eye blindness blues |
Sorry to hear about that, hope it goes well. Important point you make about going to Dr. I think many people put off 'seeing the Dr.' and most of the time it is not a big deal. However, a friend of mine had abdominal pain and kept putting it off and ended up dying. Turns out his intestine somehow got twisted & blocked which lead to it tearing. When the Dr. did autopsy he told the family it could have been easily treated if he had come in.

Wow, so sorry to hear this midnight!!
Please get a second opinion on your treatment, too, if you're told something dire about your prognosis. There may be other treatments. Keep us posted!

Re: right eye blindness blues |
Thanks ring and everyone else. My gut feeling is that I'll be fine ultimately; if i DO go blind, it supposedly will happen in the next 24 hours. It's all about whether I started taking the antibiotics fast enough. It was pretty dumb not to immediately go to the emergency room when I woke up in excruciating pain! Oh well.
Got another appt tomorrow afternoon, I'll keep ya posted :)

Re: right eye blindness blues |
I hope your eye gets better. My little boy (5-years-old)had a piece of sand or something under his eyelid a few months ago and woke up crying in pain. Well, when it's one's child, one goes straight to hospital for something like this. They got it out and showed me the special scope's view of the cornea with the eye-dye in it and all scratched up. Antibiotics healed it right up. Went for a check the next day it was nearly all better, by the second day, completely fine. I sure do wish you the same result. Hang in there, midnightcarousel.
If you're still listening to tunes and have the time, how about Kezar Stadium? My old cassette used to start with Here Comes Sunshine, then skipped a few songs here and there, had China Cat > Sunflower, Big River, then skipped on a few more to He's Gone and all the way through the amazing jams to follow. It is truly psychedelic. I love that show, and of course now have the whole thing right here.

Sorry to hear of your affliction midnight. Hopefully the antibiotics will do their thing and life will be better soon.
I have been particularly entranced by CM's update of 2/22/69. If you enjoy that particular era, I might suggest giving it a whirl. Well worth the ride.

Re: right eye blindness blues |
That's so scary. I really, really hope it turns out well. Maybe it already will have by the time you see this. I'm sure we can all relate to that in some way; I know I can. Once enough years go by, everyone has scary health things happen, to ourselves and our loved ones, and mostly they turn out OK after many hours/days of stress and tension -- though of course, that won't always happen (for any of us.)
My dad went blind in one eye; it was a drag, of course, but I'm not sure he notices it now. (I think the main difference is depth perception.) And as Monte pointed out so effectively, we're all drawn here by amazing music made by a guy with a missing finger.
But hopefully the antibiotics will work and you'll get the all clear ... everyone here is pulling for you! Thanks so much for what you bring here and the knowledge you've shared :-)
Sending good energy your way!!!

Re: right eye blindness blues |
Ben,
I was immediately drawn to you post since I have had the self same blues since 12.14.10 when I awakened with a complete loss of vision in my rt. eye. My m.d. confirmed that it was a retinal detachment and the r.e.b. blues moved right in. The story is ongoing... but, fortunately, there is some light appearing at the end of the tunnel.
However I included the above to let you know the blues were very real and very troubling.
But the reason I wanted to send you a note was let let you know that a severe corneal abrasion, even if infected, can heal without lasting consequences. I've had 2 such experiances and both resolved satisfactorily - although the healing process, as I'm sure you know, was less than pleasant.
Outcomes are best when there has been little or no vascularization of the cornea. I wish you the best of luck. Please let me know if I can be of any help.
peter

Re: right eye blindness blues |
Update to all you kind folks: eye has virtually healed, still uncomfortable but infection is gone and abrasion is all but gone. Saw doc today and he says I'll be back in business completely in a few days.
Thanks to everybody for your kind words. I know lots of people on this forum have posted for support on much more difficult problems (people dying, etc.) but your comments were super helpful all the same.
